Hope Heals is a non-profit foundation committed to raising awareness about Chiari Malformation - a serious neurological disorder in which the bottom part of the brain descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and spine. Chiari affects about 300,000 people in the U.S. which translates to approximately 1 person in every 1,000 people. The most common symptom is severe headaches. If left untreated, Chiari can lead to the development of a fluid-filled cyst in the spine and cause permanent nerve damage and paralysis.
